Music & Traditions
Hello everyone,
My traditions often include music throughout my life. We tend to listen to music at special events and holidays that are either meaningful to the occasion or just a song we like as a family. One thing that my family does is have some music playing in the background almost all day at home, especially at dinner time. My dad is usually the DJ for these occasions, so he'll play a lot of country. I'm actually not familiar with a lot of the music he plays, but it's actually great because he introduces a lot of new songs and artists to me. One song we listened to the other day was this song. It's called Broken Window Serenade, by Whiskey Myers.
Another one of my favorite traditions actually doesn't involve my family at all. It is a special song within my field hockey team here at Converse. I've known this song for a long time, but it didn't mean much to me before. Now it is our pre-game hype song, and it is the key to success for our team. I believe this tradition started either when I was a freshman or before me (I'm a senior now). Every time in the locker room, our coach will come in and talk to us, and then when she leaves, we play this song as our final hype song before we walk out to the field. The song is Can't Hold Us by Macklemore. If you're familiar with the song, you know that towards the end, there is a long part of "na na na na" in the section of the song you'll definitely hear us from outside. We bang on the lockers to the beat of the song, and it truly does bring the energy up significantly. It's just one of the many traditions we have in Converse Field Hockey.
Lastly, this past summer, my sister got married. It was an amazing experience with some pretty cool music. My sister and I have so many songs that we share a love for. Some are inside jokes, or from movies like Pitch Perfect, or our favorite dances on Just Dance. We both deeply enjoy the Mamma Mia movies, as well as my mom, and of course, during her reception, we sang our hearts out to Dancing Queen and Super Trouper. It brought me such great memories to go with these songs that I already loved. Here I've inserted a song from Mamma Mia that my sister and I find the most fun to sing along to. It's "Lay All Your Love on Me" originally by ABBA.
That is all, Thanks!!
Hi, Kilee! I enjoyed this post! I do not play any sports but I can just imagine how hype your team gets when "Can't Hold Us" starts to play! It's also so cool that your family plays background music at dinner time. I need to try it at my next dinner with my family! I also really love ABBA, so the bit you shared about the song you and your sister love to sing along to is very relatable to me!
ReplyDeleteHey I really liked your post. It’s cool how your family always has music playing, especially during dinner. My family does that sometimes too, but it’s usually whatever’s trending. I’ve never heard “Broken Window Serenade” before, but I’ll check it out.
ReplyDeleteHi kilee! I can relate to finding a song that became tradition because of your sport! It's a good song and love listening to it as well. I have never heard your first song before but I thought it was very sweet and glad it holds memories with your loved ones
