Music & Us : Our New Playlist

Image
Hello,       I began my search for new music by thinking about the people around me. I realized I know A LOT of international people, and I'm really close with many of them. So I decided to primarily search for music from their countries.  I started my search in the continent of South America, where we have been, but I chose to focus on a different country. I decided to research Argentina. In my years at Converse, I've known 5 different girls from Argentina, and each is from a different part. Most are from(50) Buenos Aires, which is a city, but it is also a province. When researching, this is an example of music that I found. It is called Chacarera, which is not only a music genre but also a dance. It originated in Santiago del Estero, which is a rural province in the North-central area of Argentina. It dates back to the 1800s and was influenced by indigenous people (Quechua), Spanish colonial settlers, rural criollo gauchos, and Afro-Argent...

Music & Family

Hello,      This week, I interviewed my dad and got his input on what music is meaningful to him. I started off by asking him his favorite genre of music. He said, "Bluegrass." This was not surprising to me at all. When I was in my mom's belly and just born, my dad was actually in a bluegrass band. I then asked his favorite artist, to which he answered "The Del McCoury Band". I'd never heard of this band, but when he played a little of their music once again, I knew it was something he'd like. Then I asked what his favorite song was, and he replied, "1952 Vincent Black Lightning," which is by The Del McCoury Band. I've inserted the song here!       Next, I asked my dad which instrument he knew how to play. I'm of course aware of all the instruments that hes owned and we've had in our house over the years, but these are the ones that he is confident in his ability to play "I can play the uprig...

Music & Traditions

Hello everyone,           My traditions often include music throughout my life. We tend to listen to music at special events and holidays that are either meaningful to the occasion or just a song we like as a family. One thing that my family does is have some music playing in the background almost all day at home, especially at dinner time. My dad is usually the DJ for these occasions, so he'll play a lot of country. I'm actually not familiar with a lot of the music he plays, but it's actually great because he introduces a lot of new songs and artists to me.  One song we listened to the other day was this song. It's called Broken Window Serenade, by Whiskey Myers.              Another one of my favorite traditions actually doesn't involve my family at all. It is a special song within my field hockey team here at Converse. I've known this song for a long time, but...

Hello Everyone,      My name is Kilee Bradeen, and I am a senior and a Business Management Major (concentration in sports management) with a studio art minor. I've been exposed to a lot of music throughout my life. Growing up, I played the Clarinet in the school band. I was also in the chorus, as was my older sister, who is a very talented singer. My family and I have been to many concerts, mostly country, as it is our favorite genre to listen to.       I am from a small town in Maine, and came to South Carolina to play field hockey and to escape the cold! I love all things sports and i'm sure ill never want to leave the world of sports. My family also moved here to South Carolina, we all fell in love with it and the opportunity. There are so many more things to do and see here then in Maine.  1. Here are two examples of pieces of Music that I am liking right now.  I've always been a big country fan (...
